I took up running this summer in a bid to get my stamina back. I was shocked at how bad I was as it was only 6 years ago that I ran the London Marathon.
After struggling for nearly a month to complete the first week of Couch to 5K(!), I finally got into the swing of it again. I’m not planning on doing another marathon anytime soon, but I have signed up for the Warwick Half Marathon in April 2016 to give me the incentive to keep training over the winter.
Then I found out that our local hospice, Myton, had organised a Santa Dash. It’s only 5K so perfect to get me out of the house on a Sunday morning. I’ve never run in fancy dress before but there’s a first time for everything. I admire anyone who runs a marathon in fancy dress – I’ve had the embarrassment of being overtaken on a boiling hot day by several Wombles and a Scooby Doo – but I reckon I can manage 5K.
It’s for a cause I love too. Myton Hospice did a fantastic job of looking after my dad (and us) in the last few weeks of his life and I can’t thank them enough for that. So if you’ve got a few quid to spare this month, please send it their way. Here’s a link to my JustGiving page:
And if you need an extra reason to give, you could be saving me from being embarrassed by my husband! Watch the video to find out why:
UPDATE – After the Santa Dash
Thanks to everyone who sponsored us. We raised £195 in the end – not quite enough to stop Richard running as Satan but at least it gave everyone some laughs too – apart from the one lady who didn’t get why everyone else found “Devil Christmas” funny!
